IMO, if a PRIVATE restaurant or bar wants to allow smoking, they should be able to do so.
I'm against allowing smoking in any public building or park.
But a business should be allowed to do what they want to do. There are some restaurants and bars that play the freakin music so loud you can't talk to the people you're with - so I don't go there. Before the smoking bans, if there was a place that had a lot of smoke, we didn't go there. If a hotel or motel doesn't have smoke-free rooms, we won't stay there. It's our choice. If there is a restaurant or bar that serves its patrons by topless waitresses, and my mother is visitiing, we don't go there.
I'm against smoking - it's a nasty smelly ugly habit. But I'm even more against the government telling private businesses what LEGAL ACTIONS they can have in their private businesses. It's not as if smoking is (or ever will be) illegal. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Conservatism: Self-centered mean-spiritedness fueled by ignorance and misguided self-importance.
