I think you're reacting to this pretty irrationally. It seems to me that you're trying too hard to be 'different' and 'cool'. Yes, liberal and conservative are generalities...but they're just that; generalities. It's not supposed to mean that you fall in line with every single little issue in a certain way; it's meant to give people a general idea of your philosophy. Same thing with calling yourself libertarian, socialist, communist, anarchist, and they even have a term called centrists (go figure), etc..

Whether or not you want to see yourself as the guy who looks back at society and laughs at the mainstream and call them ignorant, there are such things as liberalism and conservatism; and the historical development of these as philosophies and movements are very clear.

To me it seems you have a much better case in bitching about "Democrat" and "Republican". But you're taking this too seriously.
