[quote=Many of those lobbying against affirmative action in college admissions were people like Ward Connerly, black himself, who was sick of the notion that blacks needed special help. that was counterproductive as far as bring blacks into their full potential in school as well as business.

You know I read that back in the 1960's you could get a good job, with a 2 year degree making around 20,000 a year. That was when the average wage was $2.65 and hour. Not bad at that time. this is probably going to make somebody ticked off . But one of the reasons businesses wanted it stopped.
They were paying big bucks for people with degrees who could not do the work. It seems they had to lower standards to get people in college and help them out by lowering standards so they could graduate.
One of the side problems, They had to allow everybody in to college, then the job market was flooded with degrees. People started finding out they had to push and get a Masters degree just to get and edge in the market. Some people found they were over qualified and could not get certain jobs.
They are trying to cut back, and push for merit not just equality. Frankly, anybody should have a chance for improvement, but let the best one win. Why, not? |
