And, from a tactical and strategic military viewpoint, those supposed permanent Iraqi bases might be deemed unnecessary given the other bases in the region.
Surely, the US is likely to have some permanent military presence in Iraq even after the Iraq has sufficiently stabilized.
But, much like with Saudi Arabia today, that could end up being a role of support and any so-called "bases" there would end up being essentially equipment depots. |
