You can call the police, but they have got to be close enough to get to you before the person gets in. or you will have to deal with them. If they come in a house while people are in it, they do not have any problem killing them. You can be high minded about guns, but teach kids not to touch.
My grandfather kept a shot gun behind the front door for twenty years, and raised 11 children in that house. Not one of them put a finger on his shotgun, They were the ones who taught me as a child,"do not touch Granpa's gun!"
