I think it just goes to show where one can be led when one blindly accepts a reality without subjecting it to logic or inquiry (also known as faith). I would only tweak it a tiny bit, and say from a source of PERCEIVED authority. Being an actual authority is clearly not needed to be able to get people to follow you and accept what you say as fact. The author of that website proves that very convincingly.
I'm reminded of the scene in Life of Brian where the followers are arguing over what to follow. "Follow the shoe!" "No, cast away the shoe and follow the gourd!" No explanation is given for the demands, but if said in an authoritative enough way, people will follow, unquestioningly... and even demand that others follow, unquestioningly.
