I really have been so very disturbed for a very long time by any number of "christians" who get all excited when there are earthquakes and tsunamis and when there are drive by shootings and such...all claimed as signs that the end is near, that the rapture, as many believe there is to be, is just a blink of the eye away... And the attitude is "to hell with the rest of the world"... Now truth be told, I don't believe in a rapture at all. But even when I did, I was disturbed that folk were watching the news, hearing of tragedies, wars, and natural disasters, political implementations in the Middle East, etc. etc. ad nauseum, just to build their own glee that they are gonna get some weird spiritual experience, astral-assumption deal...and leave the world behind, and all its problems. It seemed so loveless and conflicting with the love of Christ that is to love our neighbors as ourselves and who is our neighbor but every man and woman and child in the whole wide world... Fiendish and cultic but not truly a marker of individual Christians. Just the machination of religion. And yes, many are swept into it and desensitized to the essential connectedness we are to have to everyone else and to the peace that this planet is meant to know when we all care for one another.
