That's what many slaves were saying, too, when the economy started booming (due to slavery and cotton farming) and slave owners were considering themselves righteous "progressives" by providing for their slaves better. But, just because some were happy, doesn't mean they weren't free. The 'progressives' of that day and under that social condition (slavery) are essentially equatable to the "progressives" (bourgeois liberals) of today and today's social condition (capitalism). | I can see your point. Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.
