Well, the S.C.A. takes it a step beyond just playing dress-up. People take on actual personas for the S.C.A. and all its various events.

For many, it's just a hobby. They make their own garb/armor, armaments... take on their personas at events. They make music, fight touraments (there's an actual "war" in Arizona every year) party together, and so on. In other words, George the accountant becomes Sir Jonathan of the Crosswinds for the weekend.

But I've meet a few people who were so lost in their S.C.A. personas, they never came out of them. They quit calling themselves or one another by their real names.
