The film's director swears his research is sound, but I've seen/read information from several qualified historians who think he, at the very least, has greatly exaggerated Brigham Young's knowlege of/involvement in the events that led to a Mormon militia killing dozens of people.
The film's contention seems to be the massacre was more or less ordered and sanctioned by Young and the leadership of the Mormon Church -- but many historans seem to think that's not true -- an the massacre was more the result of misunderstandings and rouge elements acting on their own.
Anyway, was just wondering what thoughts you might have on this. | I haven't seen the movie, but as far as historians go, the opinions change over time, especially as we move further away from history and can view it more objectively. Our Task must be to free ourselves... by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures, the whole of nature, and its beauty.
