It used to be that before we had the self-serve stations, a customer can always go into the restroom while the gas station attendant is pumping gas, wash the windows, and even check the oil.

Nowadays, who rarely ever sees that? If she only had no time to waste, she would have pumped her own gas after prepaying, and then be gone. She would not have cared about using the head.

No vehicle, unless it is a motorhome, could travel 1K miles without stopping for gas. And I don't know much about how far a motorhome can travel on a full tank of gas before filling up again.
