The Mayans had a complex understanding of the stars, because they obsessed over them *literally* as if they were gods. They thought the world was coming to an end every time there was a solar eclipse. Rightfully, people should be stressing out when solar eclipses happen, not in 2012 when it merely is an end of an age, not time itself.
The History Channel loses its factual and historical value because they play whatever gets the highest ratings. This is why they play more shows about how people think Jesus is going to come flying back to Earth to save humanity, or shows about how many people think UFOs are visiting us and probing cows.
