I can see teaching about various religions, their origins, concepts, and their historical record. It may help develop an understanding between younger people of differing backgrounds. However, what religions would you include? Exclude? How do you convey the religion's dogma and respect non-believers? Considering the schools I went to, the number of religions are large in urban areas and covering them all would be a challenge.

Finally, what makes you think that public schools can teach religion effectively? Were you not the one who was complaining about cashiers having difficulties making change.

"Jesus said onto Moses - Let my people eat free" is a distinct possibility with religions taught in public schools.

Teach your the children the religious values that you cherish. Do not leave that work to others.
