I think the schools should make reasonable accomodation for a child's religion, but they should avoid promoting any religion. If a parent wants to take a kid out for Rosh Hashana, then the child should be excused. if the Muslim girl wants to wear a headscarf, she should not be prohibited. If a Christian child wants to pray before his meal, he should be allowed to. I'm not looking to excise any mention of religion from the schools, but I think schools should not be promoting it or teaching it. parents are responsible for their children's religious upbringing, not the schools. |
