People tend to think of the "hippies" that came of age in the 60s & 70s as hedonists. But there was a major spiritual element to the counterculture movement.

It was expressed by many through the exploration of what has come to be known as "new age" religion. But there was also a major Christian element known as the Jesus Movement.

Personally, I've never seen hippies as non-religious. (That was fxashun's opinion.) What you just said is exacly what I have heard from MOST of the people that experienced that time period.
