Underwater Vac Inhales Alien Algae
No, this isn't mistakenly left out of the conspiracy theories.

Alien species are plants or animals that are invading non-native lands.

A good example of this are the new crab species inhabiting the New England shoreline, including the Green Crab and the Asian Shore Crab. They threaten the native populations of crab because they add to competition for food, (natural resources), they out-breed native populations, (guaranteeing that their genetics as a species are passed on) and they are aggressive.

How do they get here? Shipping, they take a cruise.

An alien plant species can cause a disruption in the food chain, based on the spread of it's dna as it interacts with the local fauna and flora.

Underwater Vac Inhales Alien Algae
Tracy Staedter, Discovery News

Sept. 25, 2007 — Alien algae are infesting and killing some of Hawaii's coral reefs at an unprecedented rate. But a new underwater vacuum cleaner is helping curb the growth.

Dubbed the Super Sucker, the machine can hoover up to 800 pounds of the thicket-like algae in an hour, which should give reefs a fighting chance of recovery.

This should also give people hope that there are things we can do on a major scale to effect our environment in a positive way. I hope this works as coral reefs are so important to the diversity of ocean life.

So, don't give up on humanity's ability to cause change it all, cure cancer, aids, end global warming and feed the hungry. When we put enough of an effort into improving or preserving something, we can make the world a better place for all.
Our Task must be to free ourselves... by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures, the whole of nature, and its beauty.
