Actually, the verses in Isaiah and Revelations don't refer to Jesus... at least not Jesus of Nazereth.
Many of the O.T. prophecies some Christains say refer to Jesus actually do not.
For one thing, Jesus isn't the "Prince of Peace."
"Think not that I come to bring peace, but rather a sword..." Sound familiar?
The title Prince of Peace rightfully belongs to another.
Anyhoooo...I spent quite a lot of my youth in the teaching of such groups as Campus Crusade for Christ, who, btw, love that supposed "Lord, Liar or Lunatic" cunondrum. So, you're probably not going to tell me anything I don't already know... and know how to refute.
Bottom line is, Christ was God manifest, not God incarnate. And Jesus of Nathereth was nothing more (or less) than a man.
Hence the numerous verses of self-effacement, like the one I cited.
Taken in it's entirety ... and not just the verses Campus Crusade likes to cite ... Jesus' teaching on these matters seem contradictory...as He says he's NOT God about as many times as he supposedly says He IS God.
Like the part where He's standing right in front of a bunch of people and says, "Nobody has seen God." If at first you don’t succeed – try, try again and then quit. There’s no sense in making a damned fool of yourself. – W.C. Fields |
