I am not in favour of unrestricted immigration because, as has already been said, it is often used by Governments to drive down the wages of poor people in the indigenous population (this includes the children of immigrants who have had citizenship for many generations). The big problem is that many (though not all) organized groups who oppose immigration have a very high proportion of criminals and psychos amongst their membership. Any ordinary person who wants to see some politically realistic solutions to bring immigration under control is driven away by a bunch of maniacs. Not everyone who opposes further immigration wants to be involved in violent criminal activities. Whatever they say, mainstream political parties - both Left and Right - have done virtually nothing to safeguard the jobs of poorer people in the indigenous population. In addition, many extremist groups are just as ineffectual because they are overpopulated with people who like violence, rather than effective solutions.
