I agree with FX. Husband or wife; no one should feel that they have to accept that behavior from their spouse. Besides, wouldn't it have been better for Spitzer to have sought a divorce first, if he was no longer happy in their marraige? | Perhaps so. But isn't a marriage more important than a reputation?
When you make those marriage vows you are telling the world that you love this person more than any other - so shouldn't you be prepared to forgive them?
