I agree it's not an exact parallel but closer than comparing a US President to a UK Prime minister.

As Leader of the House Pelosi is a leader of a branch of government (along with the leader of the Senate), and has considerable influence over the way business is conducted.

And she did make a famous trip to the Middle East last year, meeting with heads of state in Syria, Israel and elsewhere!

Perhaps one day the US will follow Britain's example and have President's Question Time for 30 minutes each week, but it will probably take a few more centuries for that to happen.
