Most food products In the US are transported from farm to grocer by truck. Check those deisel prices at the pump.
H80 said it best: People, its time to start using coupons and any other saver's club advantages you have. Many people still view this as being "poor". It is not. Its being smart.
Now; to Walmart. I can't speak to anybody's social view of Walmart. I know they are seen by many as the big bad wolf blowing our houses down.
But, what is a big attraction to Walmart for many is their SuperCenters. These stores feed into the American addiction for convenience. We can do grocery shopping, along with many other non-food shopping all in one place!
Now when you figure in the price of gas today, what do you think about first- politics you can't control; or the money in your pocket that you need to support your family with? This is what is going through the minds of many people when they go shopping nowadays. "I can get everything done all in one place one just one trip"!
That is just one of the reasons why Walmart is such a force in American retail society, and always will be. | You forgot to mention that in the SuperWal-Marts, you can get your nails done, hair done, taxes, banking, pictures, glasses, and go to the pharmacy all in one shot. And a number of them also have restraunts too...So you not only can go grocery shopping, but eat out instead of going home and cooking.
Like you said, with gas prices as they are, who wants to empty half a tank of fuel going around getting all your business done when you can do it under one roof? And cheaply, if you're packing those coupons with you... |
