Walsh: Reason may still prevail in Texas - Salt Lake Tribune
I agree with the last lines of this story... "At some point, those children are going back home. And somebody's going to have to decide whether the polygamist lifestyle is so abusive that a child may no longer live it," Skordas says. "I don't think any judge in America is ever going to say that.
"I don't defend the lifestyle. But when it comes to a time that the state can take 400 kids away from a group home, that's pretty scary." Texas ups tally of teen moms - Salt Lake Tribune
It would seem to me if a woman was forced into marriage and pregnancy, "the cavalry" coming in to save her would have her clamoring to get out of there. Call it brainwashing or whatever you want, but if the people are happy in the lifestyle that they are living, and no actual physical abuse is being proven, I call bullshit on this raid.
I still say the "the raise young girls to have sex with them" mantra is just smear. Why would you go through all that this sect has just to have sex with a teenager? The age of consent in Texas was 14 when they moved in, they were legal until they changed the law, they didn't need to build a compound to do that. Somehow I think it's a little more involved than that. It's not like this is the only compound. There are many spread out in the western states. This is just how they separate themselves from the MTV, athiests, whores, and all the other crap that this country is turning into. This is my new signature. |
