Though, I'd say he's correct. Neither the colonists nor the British were homogeneous in the support of their fellow countrymen. A lot of colonists were either nonsupporting of an independence movement or just wanted to be left alone. General George Washington frequently marched his troops and ravished American towns that were suspected of supporting the British and he frequently executed 'suspected spies and traitors' extrajudicially.
To paint the American revolution in a dichotomy of good versus tyranny would be to highly oversimplify the issue. Considering half the population of the south was enslaved I'd say the Americans were more tyrannical.
