They have had that club at the local high school ever since I lived in this city, 2001.
Here is the funny thing though. One week every year is Gay Pride Week at the high school. There are posters up of guys hand in hand or in a hug. Or girls too.
And there is one day when it is called Break the Silence. Kids can wear ribbons to show support of gay people. And if they do, all day long they do not speak. So no teacher can even ask them to answer questions in the classroom.
Later in the day, after school, they all parade to a nearby park and all at once, shout to break the silence.
I just find this so unusual since I am sure there would be many a group that would not be given that kind of leverage in the classroom to not respond to a teacher. To have posters that demonstrate their "affections"...shoot, they don't have posters up of kids carrying Bibles or the Quaran. And they are even not suppose to show PDA in the school ...like a boyfriend and girlfriend hugging or walking the halls hand in hand.
I don't blame the principal...in fact, I respect that he was honest enough to not compromise his own convictions. That means too, that up til now, he administrated with integrity and true to his own principles.
