This post is getting too long; I will close by saying that group narcissism represents the most dramatic phenomenon that leads to human destructiveness.

Ideas and quotes from “The Heart of Man” Erich Fromm
At first thought was the movie Shallow Hal and then the transformation of group thought towards beauty. In the 17th century fat was hot, in the 20th century it was not and now today we are heading for full circle and the model runways will need a little reinforcement soon. Political thought ideology is in second place on the home stretch...

Epictetus rule #1
Quote:
There are things which are within our power, and there are things which are beyond our power. Within our power are opinion, aim, desire, aversion, and, in one word, whatever affairs are our own. Beyond our power are body, property, reputation, office, and, in one word, whatever are not properly our own affairs.
So if you find beauty to be in a certain context it must be based on personal opinion but that opinion is influenced by the group opinion as one develops the personal opinion.

Take a little time to read the first few rules especially #6 while keeping in mind the writer was born in the year 0060 or thereabouts as a cripple and try to put it into context of modern thought. Epictetus Enchiridion or Handbook

We are kind of like blank hard drives when born that are then programmed with opinions that push our opinions in a direction. Once in a direction changing that direction is like changing direction on an oil supertanker.

The plural of "spouse" is "spice".
