the child has a mother (who has had a hysterectomy) and a father (who is male following sex change surgery). the couple want children and went through a process similar to the one used by numerous infertile couples around the world. their story is fascinating, but the principles that underlie their family are not that different to other families.

i would have thought you would be more supportive of this family than of a lesbian couple having a bably through artificial insemination or a male couple adopting.

this story made some wonderful headlines and looks like a breakthrough. but underneath the dramatic photographs and media circus, the issues are not new. the issues have not occured in this particular combination before, but they are not themselves new.
