yes, they should, but religion plays a role in politics. a big one, the republican party especially. separation of church and state deals more with schools, and posting the 10 commandments in government buildings.

No it doesn't. It refers to all of governement where religion has no place.
but does that really apply to political parties or political surveys? not especially.

What religious folks often fail to realize is that the separation of church and state ensures their freedom of religion.

There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.
