Corporations, perhaps, should have some regulation to ensure that the shareholders' interests are reflected in the management decision making process, but private entrepreneurs ought to have the right to hire whom they damn well please. The risk is the business owners', not society, and the business owner should control his/her own business.
| What is inherently immoral in this country is the way minorities are still treated in this country! Especially in the black community. Rascism is still a MAJOR factor in this country and blacks don't have an equal chance because of it. AA is absolutely necessary because of this reason... and a trip into any inner city in America will back this up. Visitors from overseas are SHOCKED at the hypocrisy that is America. We sit in our suburban paradise as we let our brothers suffer! | I live in the inner-city, and I am engaged to a black woman, I am very close to her entire family. I am closer to hers than I am to my own. And I think that Affirmative Action is ridiculous. So does she and her family, we have discussed it. Sure life is harder if you are a black man in this world, but you know what, no one ever said life was easy, or fair. No one should be hired for any position based on color. Race should not be a factor in any decision made. Most of the black people I know would agree that if they are being given something, wether a job or a scholarship, based soley off thier race, they'd rather not have it.
Racism is racism, whether it's anti black or white, it is all the same. People should be judged off the content of thier character, not the color of thier skin. All affirmative action does is to separate minority communities further from the majority and give poor white people even more reason to have bad feelings about minorities.
What we need is education, and a more open culture. Not attempts at a quick fix. What we really need to do is to all keep inter-breeding until we are all the same color. | That is what we need but don't get.... that is why AA is still necessary. Thanks for your post. |
