Ok could somebody explain to me who these books can actually harm?

This assumptionthat there is already enough knowledge in the world for a board or a council to make a supreme value judgement about certain texts is actually quite presumptous.

The label "harmful" can only be put if there is a universal standard against which the books can be judged. Is anybody here so full of themselves that they can claim to possess that universal standard?

Secondly, the assumption that somebody's opinion can be harmful basically implies that mankind is too stupid to discern betwwen good and bad. I don't know about the rest of you, buti really don't like selling humanity short.

Whatever these texts are, they are very important for humanity to posses because they represent opinions. Now if anybody can be swayed by those opinions, that is the failure of society. If Neo-nazis live life by Mein Kampf, then it is that society that is to blame for not ensuring that people have the tools to read, analyze and reject those opinions which have been proven wrong. not the texts themselves.

Again these types of judgements and actions are just tools used by power brokers to draw attention away from their own failings and blame any available culprit. Crime is there because of slums, slums are there because of drugs, drugs are there because of poverty and poverty exists because you have a bunch of rich corporate criminals running the country. Its a simple progression isn't it. But if you notice, very few things have ever been blamed on those criminals. Its always been, nazism, japs, communists, ghettoes, minorities, hippies, drugs, and lately "terrorists". oh and the absolute latest MEXICANS.

I do belive that consensus about good or bad can be reached, but never before society goes through a period of introspection to find out what THEY are doing wrong. Once you fix your own house you can start fixing things on the outside. I have no problem with these types of judgements, but i do require that a certain amount of introspection precedes condemnation.
