I agree. They'll legalize marijuana, yes. Hard drugs, no.
But there are several problems. First of all, marijuana IS a gateway drug to many people (as much as the pro-pot people want to say it's not). It's really stupid and illogical to legalize one drug that leads to use of, and addiction to, other drugs that are illegal.
Second, in the long-term, we will NOT see a radical decrease in the price of drugs (for whatever good that's supposed to do anyway). Legalizing drugs will increase the number of people using them, and addicted to them - thus, increasing demand. As demand rises, so too does price. So the drugs may be cheaper for a couple years, but the price will increase exponentially over the long term.
Third, as drug use/addiction increases, so too will the cost of health-care. And even though Swedeboy doesn't understand it, socialized medicine (which we're one step away from) is EXTREMELY expensive to the government (funded, of course, by taxpayers.
Fourth, the feds will NOT be able to reap all these billions of dollars of taxes from the sale of drugs. The criminals who now sell it illegally are NOT suddenly going to become complaint, law-abiding citizens who say, "Sure. I'm more than happy to pay 50% of the lowered price of the drugs I'm selling in taxes."
Yes, marijuana will probably be legalized soon. And, in the long-term, it will be seen has having been a bad thing.
