Israel is founded upon the premise that God gave a people of a certain religion a piece of land. As a non-believer in God or gods or goddesses for that matter, I personally have trouble with the concept. As for how Israelis treat women, if the country is based upon religious precepts, then yes, women are considered lower than men. So it is in a lot of other middle eastern countries, where the old time patriarchal religions still have control over the populations, often from within the governments themselves.
The premise that violence is justified by God, be it against women or other people, animals or the earth itself, is tearing this world apart. The modern world is based upon premises such as the above, but it has never solved the problems that we have faced.
So now we have nuclear weapons, which may at sometime in the future, end all life on this planet. And we feel good in that, safe, justified in constructing our own destruction, because that is the ultimate will of God. (Talk about forcing your beliefs on other people).
Once again, it doesn't solve a thing. It just proves that as humans we are uncapable of overcoming our beliefs, (which are so deeply ingrained in our psyche), to solve the problems we all face every day.
Our Task must be to free ourselves... by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures, the whole of nature, and its beauty.
