I have also read that the military is trying to develop computer chip implants to put in the brains of sharks, so that they can remotely control them to spy under the ocean, and don't laugh, it's real technology that is being developed.
That does leave open the possibility that something like this could be used to develop 'cyborgs' along with genetic modification, which is another topic that once belonged to the realm of futuristic science fiction.
Like any other technology, this can be used for good or bad, but most likely it will be used first to benefit those in power, and then made available for those who need it most, if they can afford it.
