Our country spends more money on education than most all other countries, HELL we even spend more on education than on defense. (In 2004 Defense spending including the Iraqi War was 454 Billion Dollars, Education spending was 536 Billion Dollars)
What has that gotten us??? When our public school students take the PISA, the test that is used to determine how kids place internationally, the results are interesting to note. At age 10, the US places 8th, and at age 15 the US places 25th. Hmmm in just five short years of public school education, our children do over 200% worse. Basically, for every year after the age of 10 a child spends in public schools they become 40% dumber!!!! Think about that one for a minute....
We need to fix the problem, and spending more has not been the solution!!!! It is time to try something new!!!!!!!!! Vouchers are definitely a step in the right direction. Competition causes improvement, this is a simple and well established fact!!!!
dmk Conservatism, I repeat is not an ideology. It does not breed fanatics....But if you want men who seek, reasonably and prudently, to reconcile the best in wisdom of our ancestors with the change which is essential to a vigorous civil social existence, then you will do well to turn to conservative principles -Russell Kirk- |
