Goldwater did support some good libertarian views, but he represented the wanting of continued oppression of African-Americans. | Goldwater wasn't racist. He just had a different idea on how to achieve equality. I agree that it might have been the wrong idea, but he was nothing if not consistant. He did not want the federal government meddling in what he considered to be state affairs.
He was also pro-choice, pro-gay, pro-gun, pro-free trade, and anti-communist. I think it's pretty clear why I like the guy, given my political beliefs, and regarding the last three, pretty clear why you don't. My political compass
