I don't know that there's any way we can really say "yes" or "no".

There have not been any terrorist attacks on US soil since then, but there might not have been anyway.

Also, an American military presence - in the heart of the Muslim-controlled theocracies of the middle-East - does have us "on the ground" and at the center of things. But whether that really helps, or incurs more problems, is debatable.


One of the main problems is that, in the mind of Muslims, ANY attack of ANY country where there are Fundy Islamic Terrorists is seen as an attack on Islam itself. They don't see the invasion of Iraq as an attempt to rid the country of Saddam. They see it as an attack on Islam.

In the end, it's the "silent majority" of peaceful, moderate Muslims - Muslims who are themselves sick of the terrorists - who are going to have to rise up and deal with the problem.
