Don't Give the Social Security $$$ of My Parents to Illegal Immigrants
Don’t Give the Social Security $$$ of My Parents to Illegal Immigrants

I read some rather sobering reports over the weekend about the pending budget problems in both Washington and many statehouses across the union. Government spending has risen at such a rate and budget deficits have gotten so big that we’re all soon to see increased taxes AND cuts in government spending in order to get our financial house even reasonably in order.

This is sure to develop into a real battle between political parties, ideologies and special interests over the next couple of years. Get ready.

I’m sure a lot of this will get pretty complicated. But I also think two issues deserve particular attention.

First, I think we have a clear moral obligation to commit to the well being of our parents and grandparents. In my mind these are the people that helped build this terrific country. To cut their social security would be flat-out wrong.

Which leads to my second point. There are anywhere from 15 to 18 million illegal immigrants living in the US. Some of these are good people, some aren’t. Some of them are receiving illegal government assistance (social security, medicare, aid to families, etc.), others aren’t. But, on balance, my intuition tells me that they are costing us billions and billions of dollars.

As we start cutting government spending it is aid to illegal immigrants that should be at the top of the list. WE ABSOLUTELY CANNOT CUT SUPPORT FROM OUR PARENTS so the government can pay out that money to illegal immigrants.

Not my parents. Not your parents.
