Millions of rounds of ammunition are sold each year; and the recordkeeping required of these sales can sometimes be creative to suit the seller's or purchaser's needs.
However, I still stand by my original statement: that this crime was a stupid, irresponsible act. Acts such as this are why people are fighting to overturn the Second Amendment. I will always believe that the right to posess firearms carries with it the resposibility to use the firearm in a safe manner. We must remember the immutable fact that guns only have one purpose on this earth. They were developed simply to kill- whether the intended target be an animal while hunting; or a man.
I'll step off the soapbox now. This is a hot issue with me, and I could rail incessantly on about it. Thanks for understanding my point of view.
Cool! I didn't know ammunition had serial numbers and lot numbers. I had thought maybe we should require owners' name/ID to be inscribed on each and every bullet. Silly me. Hopefully they were able to recover the bullet.
