That doesn't make it much better. You put somebody's life at risk, and saying "Everybody got a good laugh" doesn't mean it's socially acceptable. What if, back then, I walked up to you on the street and shot at you with blanks? Would you just brush it off and say "Well it's just the time we live in"? No, you'd prob get me arrested and tried for a whole host of crimes.

The idea that you don't even seem to have thought twice and STILL don't see it as a big deal is what's alarming, not the fact that you did it all those years ago. Like using the word "negro" because back in the middle of the century it was acceptable.
