So tell me, when do YOU think the "shift" occurred, and why?

I say it happened in the 50s, and was a direct result of the growing complexity of the Cold War Era world.

Got any better answers, PeeWee?
Populism is a long-running concept and has always been, well, popular in the midwest, but it has been losing ground for less traditional conservative concepts. Now, with public dissatisfaction over the past few years, people are willing to go back to Reaganesque fiscal policies. I'm not sure about the social policies, though. Maybe people want to turn back the clock and see a time when church and state remained uncorrupted by each other.
