to gain a perspective of peace
This taken from a book called: The Relentless Tenderness of Jesus...

"...during the Vietnam War the Chicago tribune ran a comic strip for children, "Tales of the Green Beret," which was syndicated in twenty-five papers across the country. Sample dialogue between two Green Berets: "We kidnap, we burn, we execute...we clobber the Vietcong from the inside, where they live. It's cruel, ruthless, the kind of war they invented. They use terrorism, assassination. We're giving it back to them in spades."

We could rejoice when a headline in The New York Times proclaimed that only two hundred Americans were killed this week. We could be glad when five thousand Vietcong were flushed out and massacred. But these are not statistics to the Lord Jesus: these are persons. And when even one shrieks to heaven with his flesh in flames-friend or enemy-we should all weep, we should all be ashamed.
