It pretty much boils down to the winter season being noticably shorter. Upstate New York just got hammered with 11 feet of snow. Why? Because the great lakes did not freeze this year. Thats why it is called lake effect snow, as the moisture rises from open water. There is hardly ever lake effect snow in Febuary because the lakes are frozen by now, usually.
As for the the Northeast, I, here in RI have seen 1 inch of snow all year. We are getting the ice storm but got spared the worst of it. It is now raining and the roads aren't that bad.
A usual winter here is nothing like this one. It is definitely warmer than any I remember. Gobal warming is real, no matter what the enviromentalist haters say. I think half of them just like to argue.
