Tragic situations... I would like to sart a thread here to examine the more difficult situations... Specifically rape, incest and threat to the mother's life.
I've heard a lot of opinions here, and I respect each person's right to their own. That said...
What do we believe when things become more complicated?
A woman that is pregnant as a result of a rape? Most believe that she should have a right to a legal and safe abortion, but some contend that the conception is not the baby's fault and s/he should not be punished for it.
Incest, especially molestation, is a horrible thing. What do we think if a young woman is pregnant by a relative but doesn't have yet enough sense of self (which is common among molested youngsters) to name the person that has been taking advantage? Is it her responsibility or should she also have access?
What of the woman who know that she has a medical condition that would probably kill her if she was to give birth? Some believe that if you are not capable of having or raising a child you shouldn't have sex. Should SHE be made to have a child since she knew the risks?
I think it would be interesting to discuss this directly. |
