I can't understand why the US in completely incpable of seeing a middle road. One that causes FEWER DEATHS. I have a suspicion it is because the US is so convinced of its infallibility and righteousness, that it cannot imagine giving an iota on ANY count ( i mean how can you alter something which is "perfect")
As long as you remain under the misconception that you are fighting against a united, organized nation of terrorists, any and all actions will bear no fruit. As has been conclusively proven. YOu americans are LESS safe today than you were prior to the "war on terror".
Terrorists are a product of social pressures. Becoming a terrorist is not a career choice, nor is it a direction chosen "just because".
There is a HUGE number of reasons that might cause a person to mistakinly believe that terrorism is a GOOD choice. In order to combat terrorism you must address the causes that LEAD people to become terrorists. This can be anything from lack of representation, exploitation, religious dogma, poverty, corruption civil unrest etc etc.
Until THESE items are dealt with the number of terrorists will steadily increase. You can kill as many as you want, but for every "terrorist" US troops kill, there are no less than 10 ready to take his place.
I hav ehope that a future US admin will realize this (at least in part) and stop trying to cure a disease by destroying the symptoms. TERRORISM isn't the enemy. The REAL enemy are those conditions that have arisen (under US world leadership - that's why you guys are gettin so much flack btw) which can make a man desperate enough to blow himself up.
Deal with the societal factors that cause terrorism and you may have a solution. The War on Terror should take the shape of developmental programs and not the primitive "keep shooting till you hit the right target". Love for all, Hatred for none |
