The pastor doesnt tell us about DNA. Science does. Science tells us that at conseption there developes a 6' coil, shaped similar to a twisted latter. Inside it are codes full of information. Every single thing that person is to become is encoded with in the DNA. Its litteraly a book on who that person is, as far as eye color, hair color, height, weight, learning ability, the list just goes on and on. Now if, through science, DNA tells us that he/she is a person, who are we to argue?

Don't get me wrong, Grace, I'm in full agreement with you here. I was just criticizing the practice of certain people to get their biological and medical information from clergy.

I'm anti-abortion, but I'm pro-choice for a pretty straight-forward reason. I try to be 'pro-life' as much as I can as I see that as an integral part of what we call morality. I'm just following the data that shows that outlawing abortion causes more harm than good, causing mothers to get back-ally abortions which in turn causes many mothers to die with their children.

It is a slippery slope, I will give you that. To me (now please dont get offended) abortion seems to be a nessesary evil. But only in light of the fact that we live in a more increasingly Goddless world. It seems to me that if folks lived and pulled for each other the way God intended, there would be no need for such a surgery. Nor would there be such a lack of love for our unborn.

There's going to be unplanned pregnancies with or without religion. Actually, the data shows that teenagers that take place in religious celibacy pledges have the same, or even higher rates of premarital sex, unplanned pregnancies, and STD's.

This is just one example. Religion poisons everything.

I disagree with Weinberg, and question how "good" those men were to begin with.

Im not talking religion here Kat, but a true relationship. Dont get me wrong, none of what I said is possible, not in this life.

That's my position too, we agree again.

I'm amazed at how glibly the subject of abortion is treated in the media and by politicians, religious leaders, etc. They love to classify Presidential candidates as pro-choice or pro-life, and all the Republicans insist they will appoint "strict constructionist justices" to the Supreme Court.

That supposedly helps put candidates in boxes. But I never hear any debate about what would happen if Rowe v Wade was overturned.

What would happen if abortion was made illegal in America?

An increase in backstreet abortions and visits to other countries?

And what should be the punishment for a woman who has an abortion, or the doctor who performs it?

And in this we agree. But I think there ought to be a registry of all the women that get abortions and severe punishment for anyone that provides abortion services but does not register it. I don't think abortion should be like going down and getting your hair done.

Excellent post Gar. The questions at the end were dead on.

Overturning Roe V Wade wouldn't make abortion illegal, it would give the states the choice on where that state stands on the issue. So that poor women in states that would make it illegal would have a difficult time getting to a state where it was legal. And you'll still have those poor women getting illegal dangerous abortions. I wonder how many people feel that they own their own bodies? With all the libertarian talk about property and the rights of owners over their property, how does that square with a woman's body belonging to her? At least while a fetus is not viable outside of the womb?
