To some degree, I think the question parallels why some women might want a surrogate mother instead of carrying the baby to term.

Again, surrogate mothers who want to keep the baby instead of giving him/her up is another excellent parallel. The situation you discuss exists in multiple ways.

I have never seen any statistics on surrogate mothers and such complications, or on mothers who want to give up for adoption before birth and change their mind afterwards.
I think it would be a fascinating insight.

Thank you for sharing. I have several good friends who agreed to the females of their lives back when having abortions. These dear friends have regretted for years the, "What if's".
I was a child bride and consequently divorced at eighteen. Listened to a lot of BS through the years how I could not care adequately for my children so "You should marry someone with money." I cannot say it has always been roses and it was not always easy but I love my children dearly and always considered them a gift of God.
My daughter a few years back got pregnant. She was on blood thinners at the time. It was one those "not supposed to be able to happen" pregnancy's. Her beau at the time told her she had an option of abortion. She snapped back "You may be an option! Babies are a gift of God." He decided he did not wish to be an option, (they married later). Some days have not all been roses for her but I am sure she will never regret that decision. She has been able to spend more time with her third child than she ever had the opportunity or the time to spend with her first two children. She would share with me everyday the joyous moments those small bundles bring that she had missed while mom watched over the older two.
