What has happened is that parents are permissive out of guilt. The breakdown of the family makes it harder to exercise authority.

Parents are trying to over-compensate for not giving their kids a two-parent home, or they are trying to win a popularity contest against the other parent.

And then too, there are parents who are too tired or simply don't care about their kids.

Our generation likes to call it "reproductive freedom" but what it really is in many cases that end up crisis pregnancies, it is our generation who has neglected to be the right moral example and teacher to our children. So instead of taking the blame for that, we grasp at taking the credit for giving freedom. Sad. Selfish and sad, the "me" generation.

What you ought to be doing now, is the same thing that the pro-life supporters ought to be doing...educating, exampling, and bringing support to women who are faced with unwanted pregnancies.

"Extolling it," as you put it, is what is necessary to keep that right from being taken away.

And I believe you will find that most of the pro-choice side is doing exactly what you suggest.

I, for one, have gone so far as to offer a place in my home to a young friend who was pregnant and not sure what the future held for her and her child. As it turned out, neither the father of the child nor her parents were quite as useless and heartless as she anticipated and she did not need the refuge that I offered.

But had she decided on abortion, I would also have stood by her in that. It was her decision to make -- not mine. And she is the one who is now raising a son virtually on her own -- not me.

You can discuss the morality of abortion until we all turn blue and it will never change the fact that every woman has the right to make the decision that is right for her.

The de-criminalization of abortion was not about encouraging women to make one decision or the other. It was about allowing women to make a decision free from the coercion of the threat of prosecution.

Right now America spends $700 billion every year on foreign oil. That's our money going overseas when it could be staying here. We have to stop this.

CF, I commend you truly for your caring heart.

I do not believe many who "extol" choice are as caring as you, just like not so many who preach the woes of abortion are truly caring either.

There is a lot of self-righteousness on both sides.

It's ugly when something personal and hurtful to many is made a political issue.

Yes, are you under the impression that those statements constitute reasons for allowing or not allowing abortion? Because ultimately, in ALL cases, an unwanted pregnancy is the result of a f___ gone wrong.
The greatest danger to liberty lurks in the insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well-meaning but without understanding.

If you can figure out a way to 'equalize' pregnancy, let us know. Comparing a pregnancy to raising a born child is hardly 'equal'.

Actually, the number one emotion women report having after an abortion, is a feeling of relief.

Simple, the guy should have the option of washing his hands of the whole thing, within a reasonable time frame. That should help her maker her "choice".

So you feel that my daughter should abort the child she and her husband are expecting this summer?
