do you have a comment on what she should do if she was on the pill and among the 2-3% failure rate?

or if the condom broke?

or she planned a pregnancy but early testing showed anencephaly?

or she developed life threatening hypertension after 6 weeks of pregnancy?

or she got pregnant following a rape?

these are also "bad choices", right?

Developmental Biology 8e Online: When Does Human Life Begin?

a lot of this aticle discusses theological, philosophical and social definitions, but there is a section in the middle about the current scientific views of the beginning of life (note the use of the plural "views")

certainly a fertilized egg is alive, technically. but an unfertilized egg and a free living sperm are also alive.

a large number of fertilized eggs never develop past a few cells, never implant into the uterine lining, and are expelled from the body having never become anything resembling human. further, they were never capable of developing into anything remotely human. of those that do implant, a huge number spontaneously abort after a few weeks because of abnormalities that are lethal to further development. they also were never capable of becoming human.

we can extend this argument to the other end of the spectrum. when a person dies, it is actually quite difficult to define the moment. and after they have died, there are numerous physiological processes that continue for some time, whole organs can survive, allowing transplantation. most of the person is still composed of living cells, but they are defined as dead. by some criteria.

life is complicated and the more you know the more complicated it becomes.
Not really an argument at all. Especially not a religious one. We are mammals first and mammalian individuals start developing at the time that the sperm and egg meet. It's pretty much hard to refute without all that relativistic BS you had in that link. The fact remains, without sperm and egg coming together, there would be no reproduction. That is an absolute in nature for complex life forms.

"each age-group, the frequency of these outcomes was highest among women who were unmarried, whose educational level was not age-appropriate"

Eugenics propaganda at its finest.

There is no way in hell that I would EVER recommend a 13 year old have a baby, regardless of how the parents feel.

I support the parents right in this regard to make her have an abortion. At 13, there is no way she is mature enough to even know what having a baby means.

I'm sorry, but I think that the most responsible decision in regards to young teen pregnancy is abortion. There are just too many children raising children.

Unless they were raped, it seems they were mature enough to screw, they should be mature enough to deal with the consequences. If they had caught a permanent STD, they'd have to deal with that for the rest of their life. Sounds like they really got off easy.
Maybe the 13 year old should have just made a youtube video, posted some nudie pics on Myspace, or something. If the parents weren't vigilant enough to keep her from getting pregnant, why would they all of sudden want to be soo parental and force an abortion.

Your opinion is duly noted, and, as it is meaningless, discarded.

I don't agree. I think that many 13-year-olds are mature enough to understand the consequences of both abortion and continued pregnancy.

I am not sure that I agree that a parent should ever force an abortion on a child. But, at the very least, the situation should be thoroughly discussed with the girl and her wishes taken into consideration.
Right now America spends $700 billion every year on foreign oil. That's our money going overseas when it could be staying here. We have to stop this.
