I don't remember getting any type of sex talk from my parents. My mum probably spoke to me about it when I was very young, but I don't remember.

I do know that I did my own research. I read all kinds of books and learned pretty much everything there was to know about my body, and how babies are made, how the baby develops, etc. I basically learnt all of that myself when I was a kid.

Teachers at school are NOT good sex ed teachers - most of the time the teacher is a male and they always cringe when they have to talk about sex. It's not a subject men like to speak about.

Agreed. I've never had a good sex ed class. They were all either general teachers (in elementary school...5th grade, it was more of a puberty sex type talk) or health teachers that basically had the general basic knowledge about sex ed and just really didn't specialize in it nor care to talk about it. I think it is one of the big problems with the sex ed program as a whole. But also, I don't know how much improving it is going to help with how young teenagers are when they start to want to become sexually active. It freaks me out.

I learned basically all of my sex ed from my mom for various reasons that I won't get much into...mainly due to hitting puberty at a very young age. Sex ed in school was always a chance for me to nap.

But you don't know "men like me". You only know what you read on here. You don't know how "men like me" would interact with women in that setting. You have no idea about "men like me". My wife's parents thank me for being a "man like me" and taking care of her daughter the way that I have for the past going on 13 years. Unlike many women who find the "man of their dreams", she moved out at 17 and hasn't looked back since. Never called the cops to any of our three houses, never had any of our 40+ cars repossessed, has excellent credit, never had to go to a parent for money because we f'd up, never been hit, never had to get drunk to forget a bad date, never had an abortion, never..... She's doing just fine with a "man like me" and I'm damn proud of being a "man like me" with a "family like mine".

So if you keep your daughter away from a "man like me", you are just proving once again, you have no idea what you are talking about.

Yet strangely, so many of them like to brag about it, in relation to how much they get, how big their organs are, how talented they are in bed, etc.

Ironic and sad. All that preoccupation with the topic, and it so rarely translates into useful, instructive help for young people.

I'm not advocating that only women be permitted to give "the talk." Far from it. I'm suggesting that a lot of men just need to grow up and step up in this area.
