i can comment on the australian child support system. it is woefully ungenerous. if a father has no contact, no desire to be involved in the raising of his biological child, the burden of child support is little more than a token, and if it is never paid, it is never chased up. the assumtion is that child support goes hand in hand with parental responsibility, lots of one means lots of the other, and none or very little of one means none or very little of the other.

but of course, it is determined individually.
So there is no law in Australia mandating that a father pay child support?

there is, but they are not enforced.

unless you want to have access to your kids, and pay nothing, in which case the relevant agencies will act. but if you do a runner and never have any contact, and pay nothing, nobody will care.

It was no "mass of cells", it was my son from the moment that the sperm successfully combined with that egg. It wasn't going to be a tree or a rock. And unless something amiss happened, I was going to have a child in 9 months. There was no doubt.

So you can "mass of cells" all you want to. But that is utter bullshit. Bullshit I'm glad some people subscribe to, because I have paid for an abortion before. And I didn't consider it a "mass of cells" then either. It was a baby. A baby that I killed because I didn't want to pay child support or be with the woman. I was an asshole for that. A decision on someone's death should never be about convenience or so easy to make and facilitate.

Gary, you keep going round and round this after it has been answered. When a man ejaculates into a woman, he is stuck with whatever choice that woman makes. There aren't any options that he can argue. If she wants to keep it, he is responsible for his share of the support. If she decides to terminate, he has no say in the matter. He made his choice when he had unprotected sex and impregnated her. The rest is up to her, because it is her body that supplies what is necessary for the development of the embryo into a fetus into a human being. No one can make that choice for her, nor should they be legally allowed to.

There are laws in Australia covering parental obligations and each case is determined according to the law and NOT on its own merits

Why should the woman have a right to unilaterally deprive the father of his baby?

Or why should the woman have the right to unilaterally compel the father to pay financial support for 18 years?
