Is forcing people to wear seat belts oppression?

Even most atheists without any basis for morality would agree that murder is wrong

The reality is that abortion numbers are not affected by legality.

In the Know: Questions About Pregnancy, Contraception and Abortion

19. Does making abortion illegal stop it from occurring?
  • No. Abortion rates are much less related to legal status than they are to levels of unintended pregnancy. In many countries in which abortion is illegal but unintended pregnancy is widespread—for example, Chile, Peru, Nigeria and the Philippines—the abortion rate is higher than in the United States. Some of the world’s lowest abortion rates are in Western European countries, where abortion is legal and covered by national health insurance systems, but where levels of unintended pregnancy are very low. (43,44)
The greatest danger to liberty lurks in the insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well-meaning but without understanding.

garysher;

Even most atheists without any basis for morality

if you are arguing that atheism is without morality, that God is the only source of morality, you are even more arrogant than i thought.

would agree that murder is wrong

murder is not the issue. this is an abortion thread.

how is this a reasonable comparison ? because it saves peoples lives i am guessing.

a foetus is not a person.

we do not force foetuses to wear seat belts.

we have good evidence that seat belts save peoples lives so it is sensible to implement it as public policy, like speed limits or food hygiene.

given that foetuses are not people, it is meaningless to compare.

My 7th grade biology textbook said "All living creatures are made of living cells"
That means this so called lump of cells referred to as a fetus is a living creature. Of course, anyone can deny this scientific fact to justify their actions!

or you could think a bit more about what you read. did the book say "all collections of living cells are a living creature" or did you just imagine this connection.

all herring are fish. not all fish are herring.

You need to read my post again.
"All living creatures are made of living cells"
This would include your fish.

i am not questioning that fish are living creatures, or that all living creatures are made of cells. but it is possible to have a collection of living cells that are not a creature.

all living creatures are made of living cells.
all herring are fish

all groups of living cells are living creatures
all fish are herring.

your reasoning is based on flawed logic.
